Name:  Grace Muir
Current grade:  7th
Years at Kinkaid:  9
Sport(s) and position(s) you play at Kinkaid and outside of school: Volleyball (setter), Basketball (post), Lacrosse (center).
What Coach Jennifer Peyton says about Grace Muir: "Grace plays lacrosse for the 7th grade team this season and is a great teammate and one of the most coachable students!  Grace is a catching machine and helps run the midfield in games.  She always says thank you after practice and I just say thank you back to her for the constant 100% effort she gives."

Why do you participate in your sport(s)?: “We have home movies from when I was as young as two with a lacrosse stick in my hands trying to check a ball out of another stick held by my dad, then others with me running through the house bouncing a large soft plastic rubber purple ball.  I have always loved sports.”

Person(s) who Inspire you as an athlete and why?: “My parents both were college athletes and always encourage us to play hard and with joy.  Coach Terri Hairston has pushed me to try and realize my potential and Coach Payton has been very encouraging in volleyball and lacrosse.  I love the example each of them sets and the mental approach they take to sports.”

Goals as a student athlete: “ To make varsity in basketball and volleyball as a sophomore, lacrosse hopefully as a freshman!

What 3 words best describe you?: “Determined, joyous, serious.”

Favorite Athletics Experience: “During the sixth grade track season, I threw discus and was consistently in the high single digits to low teens placing at each meet.  One girl from St. John's always won, and by a wide margin.  I was practicing throwing out of a spin, but had not done that yet in competition.  At the conference meet, the St. John's girl went before me.  When it was my turn, I spun and threw, with the discus going farther than the St. John's girl's first throw.  It was the first time all season she had not been comfortably in first place, and seeing her reaction was awesome!  I was still ahead after our second throws, but she passed me with her third and last - it was a great throw and she did a great job.  For me, achieving my personal best of the season, using a throwing technique I had been practicing, and coming in second and being All-Conference was a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Also, once I aggressively stole the basketball from another player after Coach Terri pushed me to do so, and that working felt so great and is still very memorable.”

Favorite part of being a Falcon: “Being part of teams with friends who have my back and them knowing I'll do the same for them.  The quality of coaches who are so committed to helping you improve your knowledge of the sport.  Plus I love purple!”

Favorite food: “Rhymes with broccolate (yes, that means "chocolate").  My mom's baked, spiced tomatoes.”

Interests outside of Athletics: “I have been singing with Houston Grand Opera since I was nine.  I have participated in various theater productions since first grade, at Kinkaid and otherwise.  I also love Texas and American history, reading, and walking our dog Lily.”

Something most people do not know about you: “I am most comfortable in the water.  I am a true Pisces!”
