Name: Sophia Solé
Current grade: 10th
Years at Kinkaid:

Sport(s) and position(s) you play at Kinkaid and outside of school: Varsity Cross Country, JV Lacrosse (Mid-field), Sailing (classes of boats- I420 and Laser).

What Girls Lacrosse Coaches Angie Nickens and Addie Eggleston say about Sophia Sole': "Sophia is a great leader on and off the lacrosse field, and a very hard worker.  She is our lead goal scorer so far in the season with 12 goals.  She exudes confidence and is passionate about everything she does, especially competitive sailing."

Why do you participate in your sport(s)?: "I participate in sports mostly because they are fun and I like being on a team for my school. I am playing lacrosse this season and we have a young team, but the freshmen bring lots of energy and enthusiasm. I like being a team leader. My cross country team is a very close group.  We run all summer at Memorial Park and in August we go to a running camp in California where we bond with each other and the coaches.  We really push each other and encourage each other.  I always want to work hard and at meets run my personal best for my team. Some say sailing is not a sport, but I I don’t think they’ve seen competitive sailing at a high level. I spend about 12 hours a weekend on the water and all summer.  On top of that, I work on my fitness-running and a strength program that builds endurance and core strength."

Person(s) who Inspire you as an athlete and why?: "This fall, I sailed with the Warrior Sailing Program which introduces disabled veterans to basic sailboat racing. I was on a boat with 4 vets who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan who were wounded in battle fighting for the U.S. They all had different injuries: one had no arm, one had no leg, one was partially blind, all had PSTD.  It was really inspiring to see them overcoming their physical handicaps, but also to see them rekindle their desire to fight and compete through sailboat racing. It was really inspiring."

Goals as a student athlete: "I am focused on improving my overall fitness and being the best I can be in every sport I play. I would like to continue sailing competitively at a college with a good sailing team (unfortunately there are no high school sailing teams in Texas). I would love to win a national championship in college sailing. And every athlete’s ultimate goal…the Olympics."

What 3 words best describe you?: "intense, focused, competitive."

Favorite Athletics Experience: "I’ve loved all the International regattas I’ve competed in, but my favorite was sailing on Lake Garda in Italy where I finished as the top USA girl. Winning SPC in Cross Country this year was awesome too!"

Favorite part of being a Falcon: "What I love most about being a Falcon is that Kinkaid allows you to play lots of different sports, take academically challenging classes and be involved in clubs and other things that enrich learning (vs picking one thing to excel at). I love that Falcons are engaged and active and not just getting book smart about things. I love having teachers and coaches that are great role models."

Favorite food: "I love all food and when I travel I love to try new things."

Interests outside of Athletics: "Because I love all food, I’m interested in international food and this year I am a chair of a Culture Fest committee. I was an exchange student over Interim and now I’m hosting an exchange student. I enjoy watching performing arts, but I have zero talent in that area. I do, however, like visual arts especially Ceramics."

Something most people do not know about you: "I have three younger siblings and my middle sister AnaClare will be a freshman here next year.  I’m the reserved, tall one…she’s the outgoing, petite one."
