About the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards:

Scholastic describes the Art and Writing Awards as follows: "Since 1923, the Awards has recognized the exceptional vision of our nation’s youth, and provided a singular opportunity for students to be noticed for their creative talents." At the regional level, the competition is administered by the Harris County Department of Education. Students from any school, public or private, in Harris County can participate. Out of thousands of entries, just a few hundred earn recognition. This year, twenty-seven Kinkaid Upper School students submitted 37 individual pieces of writing and 3 senior portfolios (collections of up to 8 works) to the regional competition. They earned 6 Honorable Mentions (including a portfolio), 7 silver keys, and 5 gold keys (including a portfolio). Those five gold-key-winning entries move on to the national level of competition, results from which come out in late March.
