The Kinkaid Music Program is proud to recognize flute player Seb Seager ‘19, for his selection to the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band.

Seb is one of over 1,500 student musicians who were selected from a process that began with over 60,000 at the start of the school year. Prior to being named to the All-State Band, Seb competed in one of 28 region competitions where he placed first chair flute in November. From there, he competed at one of seven area competitions where he again placed first chair. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Seb will perform in San Antonio, February 11, 2017 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. This is the largest music convention in the country, and the students chosen to the ATSSB/TMEA All-State ensembles represent the top 2% of all high school musicians, public and private, across the state of Texas. Join us in congratulating Seb! 

The top U17, U19 and U21 athletes in the country have been named to the 2017 U.S. Junior National Field Hockey Squads and senior Kaylie Mings has the honor to be named one of the chosen few. Mings was selected to the United States U19 National Team roster where she will join a squad of 26 athletes from all over the country. The team will gather monthly to train in California, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Following their training camps, select athletes will be announced to a travel squad that will tour internationally in the spring.

Kaylie recently completed her senior season at Kinkaid where she served as a captain. She was previously a member of the U17 National team where she was selected for the Germany tour last May. Kaylie has received Regional All American, All SPC, and South Zone SPC honors. Kaylie will attend Stanford University where she will play field hockey for the Cardinal.

The Athletic Department is excited to announce that Kelly Stumph will be our full-time Program Head for Girls Varsity Volleyball moving forward. Coach Stumph came to Kinkaid this past summer as the top assistant coach for Girls Volleyball before assuming the role of Interim Head Coach in late August. In her brief time on campus, Coach Stumph has made a positive impression with her outstanding work ethic, tremendous organizational skills, in depth knowledge of several sports, and genuine passion for teaching kids at all levels. She will continue to coach within our swimming and girls lacrosse programs as well.

Prior to Kinkaid, Coach Stumph served as the Girls Varsity Volleyball Head Coach at Faith Academy in Bellville, TX where she led the Knights to the state semifinals in her first year. She also served as the Boys Head Basketball Coach and coordinated offseason strength and conditioning workouts for both junior high and high school athletes, among several other roles. Coach Stumph also has experience coaching at the club level as an assistant for the Colorado Juniors 15’s and as Head Coach for the Colorado Chill 14’s.

Coach Stumph has served in several leadership roles at Rice University, Texas A&M University, American Volleyball Coaches Association, and the United States Olympic Committee.

Hayden Rome '18 kicker on the Kinkaid Varsity Football team, has been selected by USA Football to represent the United States as the Kicker/Punter. Rome will be playing for the U.S. Under-18 National Team at the 2017 North American Championship against Team Canada. 

Rome was selected from a pool of over 10,000 athletes and Kinkaid could not be more proud of such an impressive honor. Varsity football coach and Interim Athletic Director, Nathan Larned shared this about Rome, “Hayden is the hardest working kicker I've been around. He's just a great all around athlete so kicking was something that he was naturally good at. However, he's only been truly working at it for a year or so.” Larned went on to say, “Hayden's potential is through the roof and he'll get there because of his exhausting work ethic and desire to be great at everything he does. He's a pretty remarkable young man.”

The game will be held on January 28, 2017 in Orlando, Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex as part of the 2017 NFL Pro Bowl festivities and televised on ESPN. 

Taqi Hasnain '18 placed 1st in the art contest for his ink drawing. May Moorefield '19 placed 2nd on the Latin Grammar and Reading Comprehension exam (advanced level). Lastly, Seb Seager '19 placed 2nd on the Roman Life and Culture exam (advanced level).

First, the NFHCA named 10 Kinkaid Field Hockey players to the Keith Waldman High School Nation Academic squad. 

Seniors – Marie Atmar, Sarah Fullenweider, Lexie Heim, Jennifer Jacobe and Kaylie Mings

Juniors – Katherine Berman, Ellie Bolin, Caroline Hanan, Belle Martire, and Nina Wells

Atmar, Jacobe, Mings, Martire, Hanan and Wells were also recognized as Scholars of Distinction.

Next, the Varsity Wrestling team traveled up to Dallas to compete in the State Prep tournament at McKinney Christian Academy. 

Junior Colin Lawler became the State Champion in the 220lb division. Junior Noah Chan was named the State Champion in the 152lb division and the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Seniors John Goettee earned 2^nd place in the 120lb division and Brighton Huynh came in 3^rd place in the 113lb division. All four young men qualified for the Prep National Tournament at Leigh University on February 24-25, 2017.

Finally, former Falcon Raevyn Rogers gets ready to compete for Oregon in the NCAA Division I Track and Field Indoor National Meet hosted by Texas A& M. It has been an exciting wrestling season!  While injuries sidelined several Kinkaid wrestlers this season, the remaining team proved it is small but mighty!  The first stop on the road to Prep Nationals was the Prep State Duals, held January 21 at St. John's, where four Kinkaid wrestlers went undefeated with 5-0 records:  Brighton Huynh '17, Max Mannetti '18, Noah Chan '18 and Colin Lawler '18.  Following an impressive showing at the Prep State Duals, six Kinkaid wrestlers were ranked in the top five for their weight classes in the Texas Prep Coaches Poll going into the Texas Prep State Tourney, February 4 at McKinney Christian Academy in McKinney, Texas:

113 lbs - Brighton Huynh '17 - ranked 4th

120 lbs - John Goettee '17 - ranked 2nd

138 lbs - Max Mannetti '18 - ranked 4th

145 lbs - James Goettee '17 - ranked 5th

152 lbs - Noah Chan '18 - ranked 1st

220 lbs - Colin Lawler '18 - ranked 1st

And they did not disappoint!  Four wrestlers proudly represented Kinkaid on the Prep State Tournament podium!

All four Prep State Tournament winners qualified for the 82nd National Prep Wrestling Tournament, which will be held February 24-25 at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.  Congratulations to these athletes for their accomplishments, and good luck at Nationals!

During the weekend of February 9-12, Kinkaid took twenty-two students to Baltimore for the Johns Hopkins University 20th Annual Model UN Conference. Over 1500 students from all over the country (and three international schools, as well) competed this year. Kinkaid's team did very well, and two of our students won awards.

Anvi Nandish '17 won the Outstanding Delegate Award for playing the part of Sommai Phasee in the Government of Thailand 2014 Committee, and Camila Vicens '20 won the Honorable Mention Award for playing the part of our very own Bob McNair in the NFL Owners Meeting Committee.  Congratulations to Anvi and Camila!

The winter sports season has officially come to an end. The Varsity Falcon teams had one of the strongest finishes in recent history while the Middle School teams all qualified for the HJPC tournament. Thank you to all of the fans, families, faculty, staff, coaches and student-athletes for all of your support, dedication and hard-work this season. Below is a recap of each tournament finish

SPC Team Finishes

Our Varsity teams competed here in Houston this past weekend in the Southwest Preparatory Conference Championships. The SPC is comprised of 17 schools from Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and Oklahoma. The top six teams from each zone have the ability to compete in the tournament with the #1 and #2 seeds getting a bye in the first round. Six of our seven teams had top four finishes within the entire SPC conference. Girls Varsity Basketball and Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving both won 1st Place trophies while Girls Varsity Soccer and Varsity Wrestling brought home 2nd place trophies. Boys Varsity Soccer and Varsity Basketball earned a top four finish, 3rd and 4th respectively.

SPC CHAMPIONS- Varsity Girls Basketball

The Varsity Girls Basketball team had a dominating season capped off with a SPC Championship win. The team banked 12 straight wins after the winter holiday break; going undefeated in conference play and had a 32 point average margin of victory. Feeding off the energy of the home crowd in game one, the Falcons jumped out to an early 37-19 lead against St. John's. Alexis Johnson had 23 points, 10 rebounds, Jasmine Smith had 13 points, 10 assists and Chinaza Ndee earned 11 points for the team. In game two, the Falcons again secured a big lead of 37-15 going into halftime before they went on to win. In the Championship game, the team controlled the pace of the game from the start. Johnson led the team with a double-double (22 points, 16 rebounds) and they went on win the Championship trophy.  The Falcons were also recognized by the TABC with a #2 ranking in the Large Private School Division. Congratulations Falcons!

SPC CHAMPIONS- Varsity Girls Swimming & Diving

The Varsity Girls Swimming & Diving team had a sensational showing at the SPC meet and won first place.  During the meet, Audrey Orange set a new SPC record in the 100 Free and set Kinkaid team records in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 400 Free Relay. Kate Riley and Eliana Estes earned valuable points in the Diving competition by placing second and fourth respectively. The championship was determined by the final 400 yard Freestyle Relay race. May Moorefield, Peyton Pivec, Marley Orange and Audrey Orange swam the race of their life and not only improved their team record by seven seconds but beat the second place team by a full six seconds. It was a solid effort by the entire team that allowed the Falcons to bring home the Championship trophy. Congratulations!

2nd Place- Varsity Girls Soccer

The Varsity Girls Soccer team went undefeated at home all season, scoring 81 goals and only allowing 14 against. They secured the #1 seed in the south by traveling to St. John’s and defeating them 5-2 in the last game before the tournament. The Falcons then went on to win both the quarterfinal and semi-final games against strong North Zone opponents and earned a spot in the championship game; a feat that has not been done by the program since 2012. In game one against Trinity Valley, Izzy Nelson had a hat trick and an assist along with a goal from Ellie Bolin and an assist by Caleigh Doran. In game two, Nelson scored again. This time assisted by Laine Wolfe. Bar Pierce blasted a free kick from 15 yards out to secure the win. The team then had a quick turn around and faced a strong ESD team who went on to win the title for the fourth time in four years. Congratulations on a fantastic season and 2nd place trophy.

2nd Place- Varsity Wrestling

With only 9 wrestlers out of 14 weight classes, the Varsity Wrestling Team was able to bring home the 2nd place trophy at the SPC Meet. Six wrestlers, Brighton Huynh, John Goettee, Edward Chamblee, Max Mannetti, Noah Chan and Colin Lawler earned spots in the championship finals while Ameer Mustafa and Nicke Medina competed in the consolation finals. Goettee, Chamblee, Chan and Lawler all were named SPC Champions and Huynh and Mannetti earned second. Chan, Goettee, Huyhn, and Lawler will all go on to compete at Prep Nationals at Leigh University February 24th and 25th. Congratulations to the entire team for an incredible season!

3rd Place- Varsity Boys Soccer

The Varsity Boys Soccer team entered the tournament as the #3 seed from the south and easily defeated the Episcopal School of Dallas in the the first round. Our Falcons (of the South) then took on the Falcons of Fort Worth Country Day and knocked out the #2 North Zone seed. The team fought hard in game three but came up short against EHS. They rallied back and defeated Cistercian, the #1 seed from the north, to win 3rd place overall. The team showed composure, grit, and determination over the course of the 3 day tournament. Congratulations on an outstanding finish to your season!

Only the top eight teams at the end of the regular season have the opportunity to compete in the final tournament. Boys Basketball and Boys Soccer both made it to the final game. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse.
